Orangutans
In Batang Toru, we spend lots of time looking for Orang Utan nests. These nests are big (up to 2 m!) but rather difficult to find in the dense vegetation.
Once a nest is found, we gather information about its size, location, tree species and vegetation in which it is build. This provides us valuable information about the habits of the Orang Utans and where we can find them. If the nest is still fresh, we monitor it once a month to find out how long it remains visible, this is an important information as is helps determine the Density of Orang Utan in the forest.
