Camera Trapping
Camera traps are a great tool that allow us to capture (on pictures only !) animals that are nocturnal or shy. Camera traps consists of a digital camera linked to an infra-red sensor in a watertight case. The camera traps can can be left two month in the forest without maintenance and will take a picture every time an animal passes in front of the camera.
The Batang Toru project uses ten camera traps since August 2008, this represent more than 2000 days of trapping. So far we have already taken 500 pictures of 30 animal species.
